David has been involved in the education of young people for over 30 years particularly with the teaching of Biology and Science in general he has an Honours Degree in Biological Science.
He started his career in paddle sports in1965 when he became involved with a local canoe club in London. Moving to the North West he joined Lancaster University Canoe Club and quickly became interested and successful in competitive kayaking.
His interest in the Canadian single blade paddling technique started in 1979 and over the following years he successful developed his skills in this area winning medals at National level in both C1 and C2 White water Racing and achieving British Team Standards. During this time he had also started his own Canoe and Kayak club in Rainford near St Helens.
David became involved with the sport of Dragon Boat Racing in the late 1980’s after he was invited to compete in one of the first international Dragon Boat events to take place in China.
His love for the sport has grown and grown over nearly 20 years during which time he has risen to Director of Coaching for the BDA, the Governing body of the sport. He has coached crews at all levels from beginner up to the British Open crew that won the World Championships in 1999.
He is also one of the Founder members and manager of Amathus Dragon Boat Club, one of the countries most foremost clubs.
As a competitive paddler, David has won medals both at National level with his club Amathus and at International level with the British team, the most prestigious being the Gold medal at the World Championships in 1999. With both Amathus and the GB Teams David has competed in Dragon Boat races all over the world in countries such as China, Singapore, Hong Kong and America, as well as many European venues.
David has been a serving member of the British Dragon Boat Racing Association’s Executive committee for 16 years and has been responsible for the development of their Coaching Award Scheme and their current British Team Squad system.
David is qualified in first aid and as a BDA Race official and Race organiser.
